Halperns' Receives 2008 Pacesetter Award from Atlanta Business Chronicle
Although it is still a young company, Halperns’ Purveyors of Steak and Seafood is a name that is synonymous with innovation. Here, four decades of experience and skill join the latest advances in quality assurance. With owners that are veterans in the foodservice industry, Halperns’ has grown its revenue from $12.6 million in 2005 to $133 million by the end of 2007. The Atlanta Business Chronicle salutes the company, one of this year’s Pacesetters, for not only meeting the challenges of today’s business environment but also thriving in it. As a result, Halperns’ is second on the list of Atlanta’s 50 fastest-growing private companies in 2008.
“When you’re one of the fastest growing companies in a city that’s fast growing, it truly magnifies the accomplishment,” says Atlanta Business Chronicle Publisher Ed Baker. “Being an overachiever is apparently commonplace for the Halpern’s organization,” he adds.
To qualify for this distinction, companies must be privately held; headquartered in the 20-county metro area; have 2007 revenue of $1 million to $300 million; and register more than 50 percent growth in sales for the last year. Companies are ranked by a growth index formula. Factors include the percentage change in revenue and number of employees from 2005 to 2007. Employee growth is weighted 40 percent while revenue is weighted 60 percent.
Established in 2005, Halperns’ provides the finest quality aged beef and cut steaks, the very best in veal, lamb, pork, game meats and game birds; and an incredible selection of fresh fish and shellfish to the finest chef/owner driven restaurants, steakhouses, hotel properties, multi-unit restaurants, resort properties, country clubs and casinos throughout the Southeast and Caribbean. Headquartered in Atlanta, Halperns’ designed and built a state-of-the-art facility near the airport, the best of its kind in the industry.
“I’ve been doing business with the founders of Halperns’ since the ’70s, and their name remains synonymous with quality, integrity and service,” says George W. McKerrow, president and CEO of Ted’s Montana Grill and the founder of LongHorn Steakhouse. “Halperns’ is the most loyal purveyor out there, and that’s why the company is one of Atlanta’s fastest growing.”
Also contributing to the company’s success is its proven team of industry professionals, led by pioneer Howard I. Halpern and his son Kirk.
“Our goal from the very beginning has always been to reinvent the independent meat company, so receiving this distinction of an Atlanta Pacesetter is a true honor,” says Chairman Howard I. Halpern.
